Third Grade Tracks, February 1st

Wow, it is hard to believe that January has come and gone! I guess, when you are out 1-week you lose track of time.  I am not 100% yet, however, it has been nice being back in the classroom and a routine of sorts. Give yourselves and your children a big pat on the back! I was very excited that we were 100% in attendance for the Math Benchmark on Thursday.  Hoping that Friday our Reading Benchmark will have the same results.  It was so exciting to watch the students work and use their RUMOR and reading strategies throughout the test.  Thank you to all of you for helping prepare them for the endurance of the math and reading benchmarks. Here is what is coming up in the next few weeks: 3-week Progress Reports will go home Feb. 5th; please look at your child’s work and binder this weekend to fix any grades below a 70 Information went home on DENTAL screening; next Friday, Feb. 5th is our screening day; if you DO NOT wish for your child to be screened, please return the form signed as soon as possible. Third Grade Tracks, Jan. 25th

Good Evening!  Wow, what a week this has been for me!  I feel very distant from what occurred in my classroom, yet I know I can share several things that did occur. Your child began the week back in the library building a multi-media board through Discovery Education on their Natural Disaster!  They were in good hands with Mrs. Watts our librarian, the substitute, and Ms. Kate our Churchill helper.  They got to continue working on their project in the computer lab on Thursday.  Your child can even work on this project at home through their log-in.  Here is how: They can access Discovery Education on the library resources page (swirly tree). Login: Username: usual student login (for example…ewatts2689) / Password: nestudentid# (ne0992689) To find their board… Click on Board Builder (top of the page near the color wheel) Find their board under My Boards Hover over the board and click on the pencil icon in orange box. If they click on the board itself, it will take them to a preview of the board. They will need to click on the Edit button towards the top of the screen to get into editing mode. When they are ready to turn in the board, they click on the blue share button towards the top of the page. This turns it in to Mrs. Hidalgo! We will continue to work on the boards during computer lab this week! I know the students continued to work diligently on Math and Reading skills in preparation for our benchmarks this Thursday and Friday!  They are going to do awesome and I know they will...

Third Grade Tracks, January 18th

What a week we have had! We spent the week learning about the climate, landforms, and the Earth’s surface.  Tuesday we enjoyed 1/2 of our day in the library doing research on Natural Disasters.  Next week every student will have the opportunity to create an electronic informational bulletin board that will inform us on how to prepare for a disaster.  Be sure to ask your child about it as we begin to create it.  It is something that they will be able to log-in into at  home and work on or show you. Here are a few things to know in the upcoming week (don’t forget to click on classroom news to view the Third Grade Tracks in full): Monday, January 18th is the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday!  Enjoy your 3-day weekend! The last day to earn the chance to vote at the Bluebonnet Election is Friday, January 22nd.  Every student, if they read 1 more book can earn the chance to vote and join the rest of the 3rd, 4th, 5th graders at a celebration. January 28th- Math Benchmark… PLEASE be sure to have your child use “RUMOR” (strategies) in all the problem solving homework coming home. January 29th- Reading Benchmark, continue to read and log minutes (GOAL:  100 minutes each week) Thank you to those who have brought in needed supplies!  We are still in need of more glues sticks, pencils, and low-odor dry erase markers. I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend! Please, email if you have any questions or concerns with the Third Grade Tracks and upcoming events. Cordially, Mrs....

Third Grade Tracks, Jan. 11th

Happy 2016!  Wow, it is hard to believe we have finished our first week of the 2nd semester.  It has been great busy, fun-filled week getting back into the routine of our day! Here are a few reminders/happenings coming up: BINDERS will not go home this week!  Students will bring their report card home, please return their envelope as soon as you can. GOAL SETTING:  we will be working on setting some goals this 9-weeks.  If you have time, sit down after looking at the report card and see what kind of goals your child might want to set, and  how they might achieve these goals.  (goals could be academic, social, or other personal goals related to school) We are in need of some school supplies:  if you are willing to donate, we need the following; low-odor dry erase markers, glue sticks, and pencils.  Please ask your child if they are in need of anything else. Remember, the weather is changing, please be sure your child comes to school ready to go outside to recess each day, warm or cold weather wear. Some dates to be watching for: February 23rd, 24th are Student-led conferences; your child will be sharing and leading this conference March 31st- Natural Bridge Caverns field trip.  I do not know if chaperones will be needed but as soon as I know, I will send out information. Have a wonderful weekend!  As always, click on Classroom News to read the Third Grade Tracks for next week! Mrs. Hidalgo...
