Third Grade Tracks, Sept. 12th-16th

Another amazing week of hard-work and perseverance! The students went to the computer lab for the first time this week and logged in with much success. They worked hard and took their initial ISTATION test and can now begin to log-in from home.  More information coming home soon with “how to” get started.  Istation is a great tool to help increase and build vocabulary, fluency, and all around reading skills. Third Grade Tracks is ready to view! Just click the “classroom news” link and you will find all of the great things going on in 3rd grade.  Here are a few reminders and upcoming important events: Honey Creek training, September 14th or 17th Spelling homework begins this week. Students will have a list of words, write the words in their agenda, and practice with nightly homework.  The homework is a quick check and practice of the words.  The spelling test will be on Friday. Please continue to check your child’s agenda and signing it every Friday.  I will be checking for signatures every Monday morning. Binders will come home Friday afternoon with new, graded work. Please go over the work and discuss how your child is doing.  If your child brings home any work below a 70, please redo it, and return it to school as soon as possible. Third Grade Tracks, Sept. 5th-9th

Week 2!  What another amazing, hard-working week by the entire class.  We reviewed 2-digit, and 3-digit addition and subtraction.  The students showed their amazing skills and worked hard on the review each day! They even realized that maybe a little practice on their basic addition and subtraction skills would make the problem solving easier. The students also learned about “real vs fake” reading and have been practicing the difference between the two.  We had our library orientation and were able to check-out our first 3 books for the year.  We talked about what makes a good book and ensuring that we have some good choices for our daily reading.  Library day is every Tuesday @ 11:00-11:15.  Next Wednesday we will go to the computer lab and take our first Istation reading assessment.  This will allow the students to work at and develop their own reading skills where they are in reading.  Be watching for a letter to come home about their Istation scores and being able to use the program at home. My favorite work of the week was working on Habit 1: Being Proactive.  The students took charge and created our own class mission.  I think it rocks!  Here it is: Mrs. Hidalgo’s Husky Heroes listen and make wise choices. We synergize and put first things first. Together, we learn and lead to achieve our goals. I am excited to work on Habit 2 next week, Begin with the End in Mind.  We will be focusing on goal setting so be sure to talk to your students about goals they may want to set for academic and personal...
