Good evening! Wow, I feel like I have been on a vacation as I realized, here it is Sunday I never sent out a parent email for the Third Grade Tracks! It is ready to view under Classroom News. It was an awesome week in our classroom: Monday STAAR Academy began! I was amazed the amount of students each day and we had lots of fun learning. A total of 18 students have come at least 1X this past week. I hope at the end of this week I can say 100% have participated @ least 1 day. Tuesday we had a busy day- it began with a visit from King El Rey Feo. It was great to see what he is doing for students all around San Antonio. Our day ended saying goodbye to Ms. Q. She was an awesome asset to the classroom and will be missed! Thursday we celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day- the students and I practiced a poem titled Yellow Butter, by Mary Ann Hoberman. Hopefully the students came home and shared but if not, check out the video of us reciting the poem, Poem in My Pocket I hope you have a super week and as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime with questions. Good evening! Wow, it has been sometime since I have blogged! Decided it was time to get back on track. We have had a busy week in Third Grade this week learning and reviewing skills in math and reading. I am so proud of the hard-work and dedication my class is showing as we near the STAAR testing dates. Along with working hard in class, we were able to take a break from the studying and enjoy a lesson on the San Antonio Water System. It was an amazing presentation and hopefully your child came home with their “magic” pencil! Here a few highlights and reminders in the upcoming weeks: Health Fair is Friday evening 5-7 p.m. and Fiesta 5K is on Saturday morning. I hope to see many of you at one or both of the events. Monday, April 24th begins the STAAR Academy! I hope I can excite the students into some review with a twist and a little fun! Reminder, students can come everyday or anyday they choose. Hopefully everyone can come at least 2X per week. Review your child’s binder and graded work to ensure they are up to date on all work. Parent Portal is current and reflects where students are missing work. As we are entering the downside of 3rd grade, please review and remind your students of rules and respect towards everyone. Our class is having some difficulty with respecting our peers and I know we can do better. As always, visit the Third Grade tracks, http://www.jolenehidalgo.com/index.php/classroom-news/ for important news and events in Third Grade and at Huebner. Have a beautiful weekend!...

January 23rd-27th has proven to be a very busy week in Mrs. Hidalgo’s classroom. We started off the week with a new addition to our classroom, Ms. Quintanilla (Ms. Q), a UTSA student teacher. The students are excited and ready to show Ms. Q our leadership and hard-working skills! This week the students hard-work paid off! I am very proud of each of them for their work on the reading and math benchmarks. I am excited for them to share at Student-Led conferences, how they did and what they want to work on before STAAR in May. I believe in each of them 100%! If you haven’t already, please sign-up for the Student-Led Conferences, February 7th & 8th. Your child is going to have the opportunity to share and discuss his/her goals and accomplishments in third grade. Click on the link to sign-up, http://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094baaa928a02-studentled1. Thank you to all of you who have already signed-up! Wow, what a beginning to 2017! I had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday but was so ready to see all the smiling faces in my classroom. We have rolled right into our 3rd 9-weeks and continue to laugh, share, and learn as a team. This week we began our research on Natural Disasters! Mrs. Watts invited us into the library for an entire day where we spent researching in books and through digital websites. I was so proud of the entire class and how hard they worked on getting all of their information done. This next week we will spend a 1/2 day in the library beginning to create their Natural Disaster informational boards. The great thing, your child will be able to work on their board at home and school. Be sure to ask them what they have learned about their disaster. We have also delved into multiplying 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. Ask your child how to solve 36X4 using partial products or the algorithm. They are working hard. It is very important that they continue to work on their basic multiplication facts through 12X12. This next week we will dig deeper into division. I know they are going to get this. At the end of January we will be taking our Reading and Math Benchmarks. Here are a few things I am asking for the next couple of weeks: Please try to avoid using homework passes for Math (students already know they can’t use homework passes on reading). The homework coming home is going to help prepare them for the benchmarks on January 25th and 26th....

Wow! This week has been full of lots of fun and excitement. We began the week in research in the library with Mrs. Watts. The students made some awesome Padlets about different countries. This week we also got to celebrate Perfect Attendance with Lunch and a Video in the classroom. The students enjoyed Frosty the Snowman and conversation. Our goal is to reach PERFECT ATTENDANCE faster the next time. This one took us longer than 9-weeks to get. Students earn this each day we have ALL students present! The students also enjoyed “Hour of Coding” in the computer labs this week. Be sure to ask them about what they were building! This week was an honor for me as I was surprised with a very prestige award. On Tuesday night, I was given the PTA Life Membership Award. It was a great honor accepting this award and I know it is because of the awesome Huebner Community that I received this. Thank you to all of you for making each day a great day to come to work. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend! Stay warm! Cordially, Mrs. Hidalgo...

Wow, what an amazing week back! It just excites me when the kids are motivated and excited to learn! We have been busy learning multiplication, using skip counting and repeated addition to solve problems. The students have also been busy writing expository drafts. They are persuading and telling the rest of us why we should like or do something they believe in. Again, so proud of them and their willingness to learn and try new things. This week we finally made our “Perfect Attendance” award. So next Wednesday, December 7th we will have lunch and a movie in the classroom. Our goal is to make our perfect attendance award quicker this next time. No absences and no tardies get us 1 step closer each day to the reward. As your child is sharing what they have learned this week, be sure to ask them about the continents and oceans and how they are going to remember the 7 continents and 4 oceans. They had fun learning an acronym and way to remember these important landmarks. I hope that your Thanksgiving holiday break was relaxing and peaceful! We are nearing the end of the 2nd 9-weeks so be sure to be checking your child’s binder and the Parent Portal for information on missing assignments and grades. As always, please contact me with any questions. Have a nice weekend! Hopefully it won’t be as rainy and cold as they are predicting! Cordially, Mrs....

Finally, Autumn is upon us, well at least for now! The kids have really enjoyed the change in the weather and being able to go outside and play without sweating. Along with the weather change, this week, the students spent two hard days completing the Math and Reading Benchmarks. I am very proud of their stamina and desire to do their 100% best. The benchmarks will be a great reflection on goal setting and working towards continued growth in 3rd grade skills. I think they rocked the benchmarks this week! Way to go!!! I am already seeing a lot of desire in the students to work on math skills through the Think Through Math program. Wednesday we took our initial assessment and now they are enjoying working through math problems ,while getting to build an avatar. A letter went home on Thursday about the program and how it works. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you to all of you and your family members who are Veterans. We appreciate your dedication and time served to protect us and our country. November 11th, we honor all of you ! You can click on Classroom News to read and find-out all of the great, upcoming events in 3rd grade and at Huebner. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
