Good evening! Wow, I feel like I have been on a vacation as I realized, here it is Sunday I never sent out a parent email for the Third Grade Tracks! It is ready to view under Classroom News. It was an awesome week in our classroom: Monday STAAR Academy began! I was amazed the amount of students each day and we had lots of fun learning. A total of 18 students have come at least 1X this past week. I hope at the end of this week I can say 100% have participated @ least 1 day. Tuesday we had a busy day- it began with a visit from King El Rey Feo. It was great to see what he is doing for students all around San Antonio. Our day ended saying goodbye to Ms. Q. She was an awesome asset to the classroom and will be missed! Thursday we celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day- the students and I practiced a poem titled Yellow Butter, by Mary Ann Hoberman. Hopefully the students came home and shared but if not, check out the video of us reciting the poem, Poem in My Pocket I hope you have a super week and as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime with questions. Cordially, Mrs....

Good evening! Wow, it has been sometime since I have blogged! Decided it was time to get back on track. We have had a busy week in Third Grade this week learning and reviewing skills in math and reading. I am so proud of the hard-work and dedication my class is showing as we near the STAAR testing dates. Along with working hard in class, we were able to take a break from the studying and enjoy a lesson on the San Antonio Water System. It was an amazing presentation and hopefully your child came home with their “magic” pencil! Here a few highlights and reminders in the upcoming weeks: Health Fair is Friday evening 5-7 p.m. and Fiesta 5K is on Saturday morning. I hope to see many of you at one or both of the events. Monday, April 24th begins the STAAR Academy! I hope I can excite the students into some review with a twist and a little fun! Reminder, students can come everyday or anyday they choose. Hopefully everyone can come at least 2X per week. Review your child’s binder and graded work to ensure they are up to date on all work. Parent Portal is current and reflects where students are missing work. As we are entering the downside of 3rd grade, please review and remind your students of rules and respect towards everyone. Our class is having some difficulty with respecting our peers and I know we can do better. As always, visit the Third Grade tracks, http://www.jolenehidalgo.com/index.php/classroom-news/ for important news and events in Third Grade and at Huebner. Have a beautiful weekend!...

January 23rd-27th has proven to be a very busy week in Mrs. Hidalgo’s classroom. We started off the week with a new addition to our classroom, Ms. Quintanilla (Ms. Q), a UTSA student teacher. The students are excited and ready to show Ms. Q our leadership and hard-working skills! This week the students hard-work paid off! I am very proud of each of them for their work on the reading and math benchmarks. I am excited for them to share at Student-Led conferences, how they did and what they want to work on before STAAR in May. I believe in each of them 100%! If you haven’t already, please sign-up for the Student-Led Conferences, February 7th & 8th. Your child is going to have the opportunity to share and discuss his/her goals and accomplishments in third grade. Click on the link to sign-up, http://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094baaa928a02-studentled1. Thank you to all of you who have already signed-up! Please view the Third Grade Tracks under “classroom news” and as always, let me know if you have any questions on upcoming events. Cordially, Mrs. Hidalgo...

Wow, what a beginning to 2017! I had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday but was so ready to see all the smiling faces in my classroom. We have rolled right into our 3rd 9-weeks and continue to laugh, share, and learn as a team. This week we began our research on Natural Disasters! Mrs. Watts invited us into the library for an entire day where we spent researching in books and through digital websites. I was so proud of the entire class and how hard they worked on getting all of their information done. This next week we will spend a 1/2 day in the library beginning to create their Natural Disaster informational boards. The great thing, your child will be able to work on their board at home and school. Be sure to ask them what they have learned about their disaster. We have also delved into multiplying 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. Ask your child how to solve 36X4 using partial products or the algorithm. They are working hard. It is very important that they continue to work on their basic multiplication facts through 12X12. This next week we will dig deeper into division. I know they are going to get this. At the end of January we will be taking our Reading and Math Benchmarks. Here are a few things I am asking for the next couple of weeks: Please try to avoid using homework passes for Math (students already know they can’t use homework passes on reading). The homework coming home is going to help prepare them for the benchmarks on January 25th and 26th....
